About

Nothing serious, just some romance between nature and humans

Who We Are & What We Do?

Common folks, who are annoyed by seeing concrete everywhere. Who are irritated by disappearing greenery from not only our cities but our rural land as well. We are a set of ordinary individuals trying to protect the green.

We are aiming at not only planting millions of trees but also making sure that each one of those trees survive. Hence, our focus while planting trees on roads is to go for 7 to 10 feet mature tall tree. It has a strategic advantage because:

  • It is more disease resistant.
  • It can survive harsh climates.
  • It is out of reach of Humans and Animals both hence survivability rate is already higher.

Our Story

Just like any other human who is well connected with nature, Our founder was always into plants and an occasional affair with random trees was a common sight. The pain of seeing decreasing greenery and lack of public awareness about the importance of greenery was always there. Hence, he decided to start PodaKahani out of his own home. It is now getting out of control and he is willing to take it to the public. Whatever he does in his house is never enough. This change requires national support and affiliation. And we have taken the first step.

Our Vision and Mission

Our mission is to bring plantations into closed quarters and break the perception that trees and plants can only be planted in open areas with plenty of dirt ground available. With an ever changing world and increasing population with less space available for forests, smart solutions are required to make sure our future generations have enough greenery to stay in sync with nature. The disconnect with nature always results in devastating imbalance.

Our vision is to make space for trees in the busiest of streets. To find hope from a lost cause. There are plenty of roads in Lahore where trees are almost non-existent. Numerous roundabouts that can host a number of trees and give us tiny dense forests right in the middle of the busy road. We are looking for collaborations with general public and shop owners throughout the busiest areas of big metropolitans resulting in strategic plantation of trees.

The Impact

We are seeing the rebirth of human connection with nature. We all understand how important greenery is but our focus is blur. Our campaign is going to be 100% on-ground real time initiatives launched by individuals, businesses and corporations. Our only goal is to increase green-land within Pakistan initially and then take it outside our borders too.

On Micro level, we want to provide shade for our pedestrians, considering Pakistan faces the hottest climates in the world. Public transport is directly related to how easy it is for people to get to their relevant bus stops. Almost none of the paths leading to bus stops are strategically shaded and it is a major problem. We have conducted a study including 100+ individuals , who use buses on a daily basis from 10 major roads of Lahore. It supports our narrative that we need more trees on sidewalks.

Our study also included samples of car commuters and when they were asked whether they would like a parking spot under a tree at 40 degrees, they all said yes.  The impact of this campaign and many others focusing on other factors that contribute to overall afforestation efforts is going to be huge.

On Macro Levels, we are seeing increased forest land in Pakistan. It will be achieved by collaborating with government and international agencies. We will have partners from both government and private sectors. From factories to offices that associate with our cause and dedicate certain pieces of land from their establishment for the cause. This all will result in small pockets of green spots all over the metropolitans, we are calling them breathing points for earth.

On an alarming side, less than 6% of Pakistan’s land is forest. Ideally 10%-25% of a country must be covered by forest to create an ideal ecosystem for all species, not only for humans.

We are very optimistic about the work we are doing with your help and how it will turn Pakistan green in the long term.
